Creative Activism

For Six Years I was the Creative Director of The Advocacy Academy, a social justice organisation for young people from South London, nurturing the activists of the future. In my role I focussed on the intersection of art and activism, the practice of co-creation, creative campaigning and designing immersive game-based pedagogical theatrical experiences.

Over the years I developed several partnerships with various arts & media organisations including LIFT, The Almeida, The Guardian, Coney, Battersea Arts Centre, Apple and Snakes, The Museum of London, & 198 Gallery and developed an artist-in-residence programme, working with a variety of artists including Travis Alabanza, Yara Roderigues Fowler and Zena Edwards.

Creativity was always at the heart of campaigning at The Advocacy Academy and over the years as a Changemaker on the Fellowship and as Creative Director of the organisation I was able to support some of the most creatively innovative campaigning in youth activism in the UK including Legally Black, The Halo Collective and Choked Up.

In a final act as Creative Director, I helped curate a series of films made by and with Alumni from The Advocacy Academy to archive their creativity, successes and campaigns for LIFT 2021 in conjunction with 81 Acts.
